The housing supply plan to support residents displaced by reconstruction in Bundang, Seongnam, is at risk of falling through. The public sale housing construction announced by the previous government in Yatap-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, has been scrapped due to local residents' backlash. Subsequently, the alternative site proposed by Seongnam City was also deemed unlikely to alleviate displacement demand by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to the government on the 26th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recently stated that it has reviewed the five alternative sites for residential housing proposed by Seongnam City and found them to be 'unavailable for occupancy until 2029.' Considering administrative procedures and construction timelines, it concluded that it would be difficult to provide apartments at the necessary time for occupancy.
Through the 'First New Town Relocation Support Plan' announced last December, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed plans to supply 1,500 dwellings of public sale housing to be built by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) on idle land between the Seongnam Arts Center and the Central Library by 2029. However, facing strong opposition from residents in Yatap-dong, designated as the candidate site, Seongnam City requested the Ministry to reconsider. The Ministry demanded that Seongnam City come up with alternatives.
Seongnam City subsequently proposed five alternative sites, including a greenbelt area; however, the Ministry concluded that these sites would also be difficult to supply at the necessary time for occupancy, considering administrative procedures and construction timelines.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is examining ways to disperse the demand for relocation so that it does not arrive all at once through the 'allowed maintenance quantity system.' They are considering the option of adjusting the amount of construction by moving forward or delaying the approval timing for management disposal, which is just before the reconstruction commencement.
The designated quantity for the Bundang leading district is 12,055 dwellings across four areas. The government is pushing the project, aiming for the first groundbreaking in 2027 and the first occupancy in 2030.
