On the 15th, GS Engineering and Construction announced that it has developed an 'energy-efficient lighting' system tailored to the era of Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB) and will apply this to its residential brand, Xi.
The energy-efficient lighting system introduced by GS Engineering and Construction reduces unnecessary energy consumption by 30 to 50 percent compared to existing systems, achieving both electricity cost savings and reductions in carbon emissions. It features a lighting system equipped with ultra-high-efficiency light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and smart control functions based on the Internet of Things (IoT).
The design incorporates a 'Hidden Lighting System'. The indirect lighting embedded in the ceiling serves as the main light source, while the exposed surface-mounted downlights act as supplementary light, creating a soft and cozy atmosphere without disrupting the user's focus.
Meanwhile, GS Engineering and Construction is collaborating with the lighting specialist company ALTO to develop Human Centric Lighting (HCL) that adjusts color temperature and brightness according to the passage of time, which is applied as an option in Xi apartments. The effectiveness of HCL lighting in improving sleep quality has been proven through clinical trials in collaboration with Professor Jeong Gi-young from the Seoul National University College of Medicine.
A representative from GS Engineering and Construction noted, 'Since Xi introduced specialized lighting for individual units for the first time among construction companies in 2020, we have been contemplating how lighting can go beyond simply illuminating and provide real satisfaction to customers.' They added, 'With the development of this lighting system, we expect to offer a total lighting solution that encompasses not only energy savings but also health and emotional wellbeing.'
