Hyundai E&C announced on the 14th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with JH Global on the 13th at its headquarters located in Gye-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, for the application of "visible light photocatalytic thermal rubber chip packaging technology."

JH Global is a company specializing in research and development of eco-friendly advanced materials. It is developing high-performance solutions based on photocatalytic core technology. Photocatalysts are substances that absorb light energy to induce chemical reactions, showing properties such as antibacterial, deodorization, and thermal insulation.

The visible light photocatalytic technology jointly developed by the two companies can be effectively used not only under ultraviolet light but also under visible light and indoor and outdoor lighting.

The two companies are collaborating through the "2023 Startup Leap Package Open Innovation" program organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. They are validating the potential for technology application through about two years of joint technology development and testing.

According to verification results from a certified testing organization that evaluates the safety of building materials, the section where the technology was applied showed an average surface temperature reduction effect of 11℃ compared to the temperature of playground flooring using standard polyurethane at midday.

The removal rate of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) reached up to 100%, and nitrogen oxides (NOx) were removed to below allowable limits, proving both the technical capability and effectiveness. The flooring materials with the applied rubber chips also possess elasticity and durability, ensuring their feasibility as sustainable materials.

Through this memorandum of understanding, Hyundai E&C plans to begin applying the technology starting with outdoor playgrounds in newly completed complexes this year. The aim is to expand the scope to landscaping facilities such as rest areas and common courtyards.

A representative from Hyundai E&C noted, "Playgrounds are spaces where children gather to play, develop their physical fitness, and socialize, so safety must be the top priority." They continued, "Through technical collaboration with eco-friendly solution startups, we will promote mutual growth and create safe and healthy play environments, as well as pleasant residential complexes."

The signing ceremony on the 13th was attended by Choi Kwang-ho, head of the housing design office at Hyundai E&C, and Oh Joo-myung, CEO of JH Global, along with key representatives from both companies.
