The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will hold a 'Construction Site Fall Accident Prevention Seminar' on the afternoon of the 8th at the Construction Hall in Gangnam, Seoul.
This seminar is part of the 'Construction Site Fall Accident Prevention Measures' announced jointly by relevant agencies on Feb. 28, intended to review the progress of each agency's initiatives and discuss ways to effectively implement a series of measures at construction sites. It is organized by the Construction Cooperation Committee, the Construction Association of Korea, and the Korea Association of Specialized Contractors, with the support of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The seminar will begin with presentations on the progress of fall accident prevention measures by each agency and will lead to open discussions among experts.
First, the Ministry will introduce innovative construction safety measures, including the activation of smart construction and fall accident prevention measures. Following this, the Construction Association of Korea, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and the Korea Expressway Corporation will present their respective fall accident prevention measures at construction sites, while the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' National Construction Labor Union will suggest ways to improve safety management at small and medium-sized construction sites and prevent fall accidents for construction workers.
Meanwhile, government officials, industry representatives, workers, and experts are expected to exchange opinions on the construction safety measures of the government and relevant agencies, discussing various ways to dramatically reduce fall accidents, along with strategies for effective implementation on site.
Additionally, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is undertaking efforts to implement the 'Construction Site Fall Accident Prevention Measures,' which include a joint fall accident prevention relay campaign by relevant agencies, production of educational materials using closed-circuit (CC) TV accident footage, and amending the 'Construction Technology Promotion Act' to disclose the list of construction companies where fatal accidents occurred.
It also plans to operate a task force (TF) dedicated to enhancing safety across the entire construction industry, including underground safety, supervision, construction workforce, and illegal subcontracting, with a goal to prepare and announce construction safety measures in the first half of the year.
Minister Park Sang-woo, who will attend the seminar, noted, 'There should no longer be any loss of precious lives due to construction accidents,' and urged, 'The construction industry and workers should also actively participate in creating a safe construction site.'
