DL E&C announced on the 23rd that it has placed the first deck on the Harmony Bridge (tentative name), the main bridge of the consolidation road connecting Song san Green City and Si hwa Multi Techno Valley (MTV). The deck of the bridge is a structure where roads or sidewalks for cars and pedestrians are installed, indicating that the foundation work is complete.
The project commissioned by the Korea Water Resources Corporation is the construction of a new road with a total length of 2,830 meters connecting Gojengri, Song san Green City in Hwaseong City, and Seonggok-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan City. It features four lanes in both directions and crosses the middle of Si hwa Lake. The Harmony Bridge, which is 1,165 meters long, will also be constructed in this section. The total project cost is 235.4 billion won. DL E&C has been responsible for construction, which began in February 2023, and the current progress rate is 37%. Completion is expected in May 2027.
The Harmony Bridge is regarded as a key process in the Song san Green City to Si hwa MTV consolidation road project. DL E&C designed the bridge in a ‘single-tower suspension bridge’ format to ensure it can establish itself as a local landmark. A suspension bridge is a structure where cables attached to the main tower support the deck. The main tower will rise to 85 meters, the equivalent of a 30-story apartment building. Nearby the bridge's main tower, a pedestrian bridge that overlooks the entire Si hwa Lake landscape and scenic lighting will also be installed throughout the bridge.
The direct connection between Hwaseong City and Ansan City, previously separated by Si hwa Lake, is expected to reduce travel time and revitalize the surrounding commercial areas. Using the Harmony Bridge will allow for about a 5-minute trip from Song san Green City to Si hwa MTV, which could reduce travel time by up to 40 minutes compared to taking the existing Si hwa Bridge. Notably, accessibility to the Hwaseong Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site and Turtle Island at Si hwa MTV, located on both sides of the Harmony Bridge, is anticipated to improve significantly. The government is developing this area into a tourist attraction.
DL E&C successfully achieved technological independence in suspension bridge technology for the sixth time globally when it opened the Yi Sun-sin Bridge, connecting Yeosu and Gwangyang, in 2013. Since then, it has actively engaged in the construction of maritime special bridges both domestically and internationally. In 2013, it undertook the construction of the 'Sungai Bridge,' the first suspension bridge in Brunei, and in 2022, after competing against Japanese companies, it completed the 'Chak Canal Bridge,' the longest suspension bridge in the world, in Turkey.
A DL E&C official noted, 'The Song san Green City to Si hwa MTV consolidation road project goes beyond simple bridge construction; it is a project to strengthen connections between regions and expand the foundation of industry and life,' adding, 'I will do my best with a sense of mission in building a landmark bridge.'
