The Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced on the 1st that it has selected 'LEMON City' as the winning design for the public housing district in the Gaepo Guryong Village.
The winning design for the Guryong Village project, 'LEMON City', was submitted by DA Group Engineering & Architects (Haegrim Architectural Office, Nara Engineering Corp.).
'LEMON City' aims for a 'self-immune city' where nature, the city, and people are organically connected and coexist. A 'self-immune city' refers to an urban ecosystem that adapts and evolves on its own rather than passively reacting to external shocks such as social and economic changes and climate crises.
To achieve this, it will establish ▲ 'local circular economy' ('L'ocal Urbanism) that circulates production and consumption ▲ 'self-reliant city' ('E'mpowered Autonomy) that does not depend on external infrastructure ▲ 'multi-layered identity' ('M'ulti-layered Identity) with industry, work, education, and culture functions interconnected in three dimensions ▲ 'open community' ('O'pen Diversity) that embraces differences ▲ 'sustainable system' ('N'atural Resilience) coexisting with nature.
This design competition took place from late December of last year to March, with a total of five teams participating. The judging was conducted remotely, and the entire process was live-streamed on the SH Corporation's YouTube channel to enhance transparency and fairness.
Based on this winning design, SH Corporation plans to actively promote the construction of 3,804 public housing units in the Gaepo Guryong Village public housing district, located at 478 Yangjae-daero, Gangnam-gu. The company aims to obtain project approval by 2026 and rush the project with a target completion for residents by 2030.
SH Corporation President Hwang Sang-ha said, "Through this project, we will transform Gaepo Guryong Village into a nature-friendly luxury residential area," adding that it will do its best to support the improvement of housing welfare for original residents and stable resettlement, as well as to provide 'Mirilnae House' for responding to low birth rates.
