GS Engineering and Construction has completed the comprehensive railway testing center (SRTC) in western Singapore. This marks the first time a comprehensive railway testing center has been established in Southeast Asia.
GS Engineering and Construction announced on the 1st that it held the completion ceremony for the comprehensive railway testing center (SRTC) in western Singapore on the 28th of last month. Officials from the client, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, attended the ceremony.
The newly completed comprehensive railway testing center (SRTC) in Singapore comprises a total area of 540,000 square meters, featuring three testing tracks (total length of 16.9 km) within Singapore and includes the construction of 10 buildings, such as a comprehensive management building and a control center. It allows for the testing of the durability and maximum speed performance of various urban rail systems by integrating different power supply methods, vehicle specifications, and systems within a single facility.
To ensure construction efficiency and superior quality, precast concrete (PC) structures were manufactured in advance and installed on-site for bridge superstructures, building columns, and exterior walls. Additionally, building information modeling (BIM) was utilized to create 3D models to anticipate potential interferences on-site and minimize risk factors. The project achieved zero accidents over the 14 million hours of construction.
A representative from GS Engineering and Construction noted, “The successful completion of this high-difficulty project has acknowledged the company's technical capabilities in global railway construction,” and added, “We will strive to enhance the status of Korean construction companies in overseas markets based on the successful construction technology developed in Singapore.”
