A worker died and another was injured in an accident at an apartment construction site managed by Hyundai Engineering.
The accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on the 10th at a construction site for the Hillstate apartment in the Hwaseong urban development area, Unjeong-ri, Hyeonduk-myeon, Pyeongtaek.
The Gang Form must be consolidated with metal rings to the tower crane and lowered to the ground once the concrete curing is complete.
However, according to onsite officials, the accident happened while the metal rings were being released to lower the Gang Form to the ground, causing the tower crane to move upwards.
As a result, a 50-year-old worker, referred to as A, from a subcontracting construction company fell from a height of 6 meters, while another 50-year-old worker, referred to as B, from the same company fell from a height of 3 meters. A died, and B was injured and transported to the hospital.
The police are currently investigating whether the responsible parties fulfilled their safety obligations.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor is reportedly considering the application of charges under the Serious Accident Punishment Act due to the fatality.
The Hillstate complex in Pyeongtaek's Hwayang district is scheduled to be completed in early 2026, comprising about 1,500 housing units. The construction company is Hyundai Engineering.
This accident occurred 13 days after a bridge deck collapse accident at section 9 of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway, which resulted in 10 casualties.
Around 9:49 a.m. on Feb. 25, at a construction site for the Cheongnyongcheon Bridge at section 9 of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway, managed by Hyundai Engineering, girders on top of the pier collapsed. Ten workers fell and were buried, resulting in four deaths and six injuries.
