The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has begun work to designate leading districts for the reconstruction of aging planned cities in local areas. Target locations include Haeundae in Busan, Yeonsu in Incheon, and Dunsan in Daejeon.
The Ministry of Land announced on the 16th that it held a 'Inspection Meeting for the Support Organization for Maintenance of Aging Planned Cities' at the Government Sejong Center on the 15th.
During this meeting, the Ministry of Land decided to promote the expansion of maintenance for aging planned cities nationwide, including Haeundae in Busan, Yeonsu in Incheon, and Dunsan in Daejeon, and discussed detailed plans.
Fourteen aging planned cities across the country, excluding the first-generation new towns such as Bundang, Ilsan, Pyeongchon, Jungdong, and Sanbon, are in the process of establishing basic plans. This year, nine new cities began establishing their basic plans. Currently, it is reported that Busan is progressing the fastest in establishing maintenance basic plans.
The Ministry of Land plans to consult on the basic plan for promoting leading districts in local aging planned cities and will prepare guidelines for reviewing the maintenance basic plan next March in collaboration with the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements and others.
The Ministry of Land plans to designate a public executor for the leading district of the first-generation new towns this year. Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) plans to participate as a public executor in Bundang and Sanbon, and the ministry will designate a preliminary project executor during the first half of the year.
Additionally, the Ministry of Land will establish a task force (TF) for managing permanent rental housing maintenance and housing supply and demand, in collaboration with LH for the leading district project of the first-generation new towns next month. In March, a briefing session on the Future City Fund investment will be held, and in December, a fund of funds will be created through the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG).
Lee Sang-joo, head of the Ministry of Land's Urban Policy Division, noted, 'This year, we presented plans for establishing special maintenance plans for leading districts of the first-generation new towns and the selection of leading districts for local aging planned cities through the major task promotion plan.' He added, 'Please join forces so that the maintenance of aging planned cities across the country, including the first-generation new towns, can proceed without a hitch this year.'
