Kim Yo-jong, Deputy Director of the Labor Party of North Korea, expressed on the 28th that she would not respond to Korea's attempts to resume dialogue. This marks the first official reaction from North Korea since the new government led by Lee Jae-myung took office last month. Recently, North Korea only conveyed results regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol's martial law and impeachment but did not provide any official comments.
Kim, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, stated in a statement titled 'The relationship between North and South has completely transcended the concept of kinship,' through the external media outlet Korean Central News Agency, mentioning President Lee Jae-myung by name to clarify this position.
Kim stated, “We have no interest in what policies are established in Seoul or what proposals come forward, and we clearly reiterate our official stance that there is no reason to sit face to face with Korea or discuss any issues.” She further added, “No matter how much the Lee Jae-myung government tries to attract our attention and gain international acclaim by pretending to act like a kin, claiming to do all sorts of righteous deeds, there can be no change in our country's perception of Korea as an adversary, and the historical clock that has fundamentally altered the nature of North-South relations cannot be reversed.”
Regarding the Lee Jae-myung government, she noted, “Even when considering the reality that state-to-state relations on the Korean Peninsula are permanently entrenched, the normalization of the Ministry of Unification, which should be dismantled, is presented as a historical task, confirming once again that the nature of politicians in Korea, mentally captured by the specter of absorption unification, can never change.” She added, “If we look back on just over 50 days of Lee Jae-myung's administration, despite claiming to seek easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and improving relations between North and South Korea, the blind faith in the Korea-U.S. alliance and the confrontational attitude towards us are no different from those of his predecessors.”
Regarding the suspension of broadcasts to North Korea, she said, “All of that results from problems that Korea has brought upon itself, and whatever measures are taken, it will only become their own matter, and it is merely a reversal of things that should have never been done in the first place.” She added, “If Korea, which unilaterally declared our country as its principal adversary and incited an atmosphere of extreme confrontation, expects to overturn all the results of its own making with a few sentimental words now, that would be nothing short of a colossal miscalculation.”
Some predict that the government might invite Chairman Kim to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju in October. In response, Kim stated, “Recently, there are even speculations about the possibility of inviting anyone to the APEC summit that will be held in Gyeongju in a few months, thus cultivating a delusional fantasy,” referring to it as a “delusional fantasy.”
