Kim Byung-ki, acting leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and floor leader, expressed concerns on the 23rd about the sharp rise in prices due to continuous heavy rain and extreme heat, stating, "We will prepare measures for price stability, including for food items."
Acting leader Kim mentioned during a party supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "I deeply worry that if prices rise further, the recovery of livelihoods may be hindered."
He noted, "During the 2023 monsoon, prices rose from the 2% range to mid-3%. Among those, the increase in food prices was particularly significant. Crops damaged by this heavy rain were already priced higher due to the early heatwave," adding, "I will work to ensure that measures can be implemented swiftly with the government."
Acting leader Kim also stated, "Restoring damages and stabilizing prices are indispensable for the recovery of the livelihood economy," and added, "The Democratic Party will work harder to ensure that necessary resources and administration, such as recovery equipment, are deployed in a timely manner alongside the government."
