The Ministry of National Defense stated on the 21st that the Cyber Operations Command will participate in the international cyber exercise "Cyber Flag."
The Cyber Flag exercise, led by the U.S. Cyber Command, will be held from today until the 25th at the National Cyber Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia.
Since 2011, this exercise has been held annually for the purpose of strengthening partnerships among allies, focusing on Five Eyes countries including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Korea's participation in the Cyber Flag exercise was agreed upon at the 8th Republic of Korea-U.S. Cyber Policy Working Group in May 2023 and at the 55th Republic of Korea-U.S. Security Consultative Meeting in November of the same year.
The Korean military has been participating for the fourth consecutive year since first joining in 2022.
The Cyber Operations Command plans to master defense operations against enemy cyber attacks and to share and analyze threat information among participating countries during this exercise.
A Ministry of National Defense official noted, "We will enhance our cooperation not only through the U.S. Cyber Flag exercise but also through the Republic of Korea-U.S. cyber alliance training and other initiatives."
