President Lee Jae-myung dropped the appeal regarding the dismissal of former KBS Chairman Nam Young-jin and withdrew the appeal concerning the dismissal of former Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission member Kim Yoo-jin. Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung noted in a briefing on the 16th that the president submitted these documents on the previous day.
Spokesperson Kang said, "In the case of former Chairman Nam Young-jin, the decision to drop the appeal was made in respect of the prior president's dismissal being ruled illegal by the first and second trial courts, and to correct the unlawful actions taken by the previous government." Regarding former Commission member Kim, he explained, "We respected the first trial ruling that there were no grounds for dismissal and it is thus illegal and void."
He added, "The Lee Jae-myung administration will continue to exercise its lawful authority based on the law and will seek to rectify any wrongful actions taken domestically."
Previously, former Chairman Nam filed a lawsuit against then-President Yoon Suk-yeol to overturn his dismissal after he was removed in August 2023. Following the first trial court’s ruling, the second trial court ruled last month that "the dismissal must be canceled." The court particularly stated that the reasons for Nam's dismissal, such as KBS's lax management and biased board operations due to undue interference, "are not recognized as grounds for dismissal."
