The People Power Party criticized the ruling Democratic Party of Korea for disrupting the confirmation hearing of the ministerial candidate. It urged Kang Sun-woo, the candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, who is facing allegations of mistreatment of aides, to voluntarily resign.
Song Eon-seok, Chairperson and floor leader of the People Power Party, said at a floor countermeasure meeting held at the National Assembly on the 15th, “The ruling party is inducing chaos in the confirmation hearing,” and urged, “Stop using tricks and act fairly.”
He emphasized, “It appears that the hidden intention is to simply evade verification in front of the public and delay it for just one day.” He added, “They created a sham confirmation hearing with no witnesses, no references, and no materials during the confirmation hearing for Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, and now they are completely disrupting the ministerial confirmation hearing as well.”
Chairperson Song also claimed, “Democratic Party members induced chaos in the confirmation hearing by provoking with placards at the Gender Equality and Family Committee,” and argued that “the Democratic Party members’ complaints about the People Power Party’s placarding is also a form of ‘double standards,’ but it is a blatant attempt to divert the public's attention from the confirmation hearing.”
Regarding the candidate Kang Sun-woo, who is accused of having aides run personal errands, he said, “The public cannot help but smirk,” and urged her to make her own judgment about her position.
On this day, the ruling and opposition parties mark the second day of the confirmation hearing for the ministerial candidates. Chairperson Song stated, “It is said that Kwon Oh-eul, the nominee for Minister of National Defense, disclosed information from the Gyeongbuk provincial government as a lawmaker and repeatedly warned not to sell the land in public places,” adding, “This can only be seen as encouraging real estate speculation by leaking internal information.”
