President Lee Jae-myung appointed Kang Hee-eob, chairperson of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (58), as the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 13th.
The new Vice Minister Kang began his public service after passing the 30th technical examination, serving as the Director of Road Policy, Director of Technical Safety Policy, and Director of Railways at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. During the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, he oversaw transportation measures for athletes and spectators while serving as the Director of the Transportation Bureau for the organizing committee.
Since 2023, he has served as the chairperson of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. As chairperson, Vice Minister Kang has pursued forward-looking transportation policies, including the expansion of metropolitan and urban railway supply, the introduction of eco-friendly transportation means, and the enhancement of smart transportation systems (M-DRT).
Vice Minister Kang has spent most of his public service career in the transportation and railway sectors. Lee Yoo-jeong, spokesperson for the President's Office, noted that Vice Minister Kang is "well-versed in both theory and practice and is an acknowledged transportation expert encompassing traditional transportation means and future mobility."
