Ahead of next week's National Assembly confirmation hearing super week (14th to 18th), the People Power Party strongly criticized on the 12th, saying, "This is a confirmation hearing of the Lee Jae-myung government that cannot call the illegal illegal, and cannot call the abuses abuses."
This follows the Democratic Party of Korea's stance of maintaining that there are "no issues" regarding the allegations of plagiarism against education minister nominee Lee Jin-sook and the abuse controversy surrounding Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee Kang Sun-woo, as it has initiated a "confirmation hearing endurance test."
People Power Party spokesperson Choi Soo-jin pointed out through a commentary that, "The precedent of 'zero witnesses and garbage data' created by the forceful appointment of Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who is referred to as 'Cabbage Prime Minister,' is spreading across the entire ministerial confirmation hearings," and added, "Minister of Unification nominee Jeong Dong-young has 0% data submission, Minister of Science and ICT nominee Bae Gyeong-hun has 0 witnesses and references, and the confirmation hearings for Minister of Oceans and Fisheries nominee Jeon Jae-soo and Minister of Employment and Labor nominee Kim Young-hoon also have 0 witnesses."
Choi criticized, "During the confirmation hearing of Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, he said, 'I will clarify and explain through the confirmation hearing,' but in reality, during the hearing, he did not submit any materials and only spouted absurdities that 'it has already been clarified,'" and added, "Such tricks by the Democratic Party of Korea regarding the confirmation hearing have become the new normal."
Additionally, Choi stated, "I want to return to the Democratic Party of Korea what they said during their time in the opposition, 'If you don't want to be verified by not submitting materials, just live as a sign,'" and emphasized, "A nominee who makes a promise to undergo public verification but does not submit even basic materials has no qualification to stand before the people."
He further commented, "The chairpersons of the Democratic Party of Korea's standing committees should not overlook the nominees' avoidance of verification and should strongly criticize the failure to submit materials at the committee level," adding, "It raises doubts about whether a government that cannot call the illegal illegal and cannot call the abuses abuses possesses morality and expertise."
Choi urged, "Even now, the Democratic Party of Korea should transparently disclose all materials to normalize the confirmation hearings and properly undergo verification of morality and qualifications."
