Newly appointed People Power Party Chairperson Yoon Hee-suk said on the 9th, “The subject of innovation is the party members,” adding, “It is the mission of the Innovation Committee to create a foundation for the party members to express their opinions.”
On the same day, Yoon met with reporters at the National Assembly and stated, “I will prepare an innovation plan that meets the public’s expectations,” and noted, “If the next leadership doesn’t intend to fail together, they will have no choice but to accept the innovation plan.”
She also emphasized, “The most common thing people are saying right now is to ‘close the party,’ and an innovation plan that closes the party to that extent must be prepared,” and stressed that the next leadership should accept such a level of innovation plan to succeed.
Regarding the ‘personnel purge’ suggested by her predecessor Ahn Cheol-soo, Yoon said, “Our party members have never given anyone the authority to wield a knife against a specific individual,” and stated, “It is our role to create a foundation for party members to decide how to wield the authority of innovation.”
When asked if she had received a promise of full authority from the leadership, she replied, “There is no need to discuss such matters, as both the leadership and I feel we are in a desperate situation,” and added, “There is no need for confirmation of whether it is full authority or not right now.”
She responded that she would consider proposals for a ‘party-wide opinion poll’ suggested by former Emergency Response Committee member Kim Yong-tae and the ‘presidential election white paper’ presented by Ahn.
Earlier, the People Power Party emergency committee held a meeting on the same day and appointed Yoon Hee-suk as the new chairperson of the Innovation Committee. Yoon is an economic expert from the Korea Development Institute (KDI) and served as a member of the 21st National Assembly. She currently holds the position of the head of the Yeouido Research Institute.
