The People Power Party’s emergency response committee appointed Yoon Hee-sook as the new Chairperson of the Innovation Committee on the 9th. Yoon has been mentioned as a leading candidate for the Chairperson position and is regarded as an economic expert representing centrist conservatism.
The term of activity for the Innovation Committee is until August 31. Chairperson Yoon will concurrently hold the position of Director of the Yeouido Institute until this period.
Song Eon-seok, the Chairperson of the People Power Party’s emergency committee and floor leader, noted, “Chairperson Yoon has been one of the strong candidates for the Innovation Chairperson from the beginning,” adding that he believes “(our party) will become a policy expert party moving forward, breaking away from its past failures and approaching the sentiments of the metropolitan area.”
Chairperson Yoon served as a member of the 21st National Assembly and ran for election in the 22nd National Assembly in the Jung-gu, Seoul district, where she was unsuccessful. In January of this year, she was appointed as the head of the Yeouido Institute, which serves as the party’s think tank, and during the last presidential election, she served as the head of the election pledge development team.
As Ahn Cheol-soo, Chairperson, and Song Kyung-taek, Commissioner, who were included in the existing Innovation Committee list, resigned, the emergency committee appointed Bae Ji-hwan, a member of the Suwon City Council, as a new Innovation Commissioner alongside Chairperson Yoon Hee-sook. She is praised for her high understanding of the party’s organizational issues and innovation tasks based on her experience in local councils.
Accordingly, the Innovation Committee was finalized to consist of six members, including Chairperson Yoon and lawmakers Choi Hyung-du (Changwon Masan-Happo, Gyeongnam), Ho Jun-seok, the party spokesperson, Lee Jae-sung, the deputy director of the Yeouido Institute, and Kim Hyo-eun, the policy adviser to the former Minister of Education.
Former emergency committee Chairperson Hwang Woo-yeo has been appointed as the head of the election management committee for the next party convention elections scheduled for August. The convention is likely to be held on the 19th of next month at OSCO in Cheongju, Chungbuk.
