The People Power Party is looking for a new chairperson for the Innovation Committee to replace Representative Ahn Cheol-soo, who announced his resignation. The party plans to complete the appointment of the Innovation Committee in the near future and relaunch it.
Song Eon-seok, the chairperson of the People Power Party and floor leader, said during a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 8th, “We will appoint a new chairperson of the Innovation Committee as soon as possible and launch the committee to lead the party's renewal.”
He emphasized, “Yesterday (the 7th), Ahn Cheol-soo, the chairperson of the Innovation Committee, resigned” and added, “I sincerely apologize for causing confusion to party members and the public who wish for the party's change and renewal.”
Earlier, Representative Ahn announced his candidacy for party leader while resigning as chairperson of the Innovation Committee, citing reasons such as rejecting requests for the appointment of committee members and demands for personnel renewal. It was reported that he called for action against former emergency response committee chairperson Kwon Young-se and floor leader Kwon Seong-dong regarding the controversy over the candidate replacement that occurred during the last presidential election.
It has not yet been decided whether to appoint the new chairperson of the Innovation Committee from within or outside the party. Park Seong-hoon, the spokesperson for the People Power Party, met with reporters after the floor strategy meeting that day and said, “We will do our best to ensure that the momentum for innovation is not lost due to Representative Ahn's resignation.” He added, “We will strive to welcome someone who meets the expectations, regardless of whether they are inside or outside the party.”
The People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for launching the ‘Prosecutorial Manipulation Indictment Response Task Force (TF),’ calling it “a reversal of Supreme Court rulings to save President Lee Jae-myung.”
Chairperson Song criticized, “The TF defined the illegal remittance incident to North Korea, which is considered the worst risk among President Lee's judicial risks, as the ‘murder plot against Lee Jae-myung’ orchestrated by the prosecution.” He added, “This is a self-pardon attempt by President Lee, who has mobilized the ruling party's action leaders, and an utterly unacceptable anti-constitutional attempt to incapacitate the judiciary.”
He continued, “The illegal remittance incident to North Korea, in which President Lee is involved, is a clear violation of international sanctions known to the public and the international community.” He stated, “We will never overlook the anti-constitutional efforts by the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party to incapacitate the judiciary.”
