The government announced on the 30th that it will enhance the flood risk information service for roads in preparation for heavy rainfall.
The Ministry of Environment decided to add navigation information for high-risk points just before river flooding at 933 sites nationwide, in addition to existing dam discharge information and flood warnings. This expansion is about four times larger than the current information provision points. With this measure, drivers will be able to receive real-time information about high-risk areas just before river flooding.
In addition to serious flood information levels, the Ministry of Environment will provide information on ▲ six underpasses at risk of flooding and ▲ seven general roads at risk of flooding selected by the Busan Regional Land Management Office, considering ground conditions and flooding history in the flood-prone Yeongnam area. This year, it will be limited to the Yeongnam region, and the effectiveness of this information provision will be reviewed for potential nationwide expansion in the future.
This service will, as it did last year, provide navigation screens and voice guidance when drivers approach flood and inundation risk points (within 1.5 km of flood risk information or certain forward sections of inundation risk).
T-map will provide the service starting from this rainy season, and major navigation services including Kakao, Hyundai Motor, Kia, Naver Map, Aina Biair, and Atlan will sequentially commence their services between the end of June and early July.
The Ministry of Environment noted that it will continue to strive to create a safe Korea by effectively integrating the government's capabilities and the excellent digital services of corporations to unconditionally protect the lives and safety of citizens.
