The presidential office appointed Lee Ho-hyun, the head of the Energy Policy Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as the Vice Minister.
The Vice Minister, born in 1967 in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province, graduated from Gangwon High School, studied economics at Yonsei University, and earned a master's degree in finance from Johns Hopkins University.
He began his public service career as part of the 39th National Civil Service Examination, serving as the head of the Gas Industry Division, Trade Policy Division, and General Affairs Division, among other roles, before becoming the Director of Cooperative Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
He has also served as the Director of Trade Policy, Director of Energy Innovation Policy, Director of Power Innovation Policy, and the head of the Energy Policy Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
He is known for his strong reputation within the organization, having been selected as the 'most desirable executive to work with' due to his clear feedback and explicit job instructions.
The presidential office noted, "This Vice Minister is a person with expertise in the energy sector," adding that he has experience in expanding renewable energy, energy mix, and the development of new energy technologies.
They also assessed that "he will be able to effectively promote the growth of Mirae Industries such as semiconductors and AI data centers, as well as fulfill the president's promise of an 'Energy Expressway.'"
