Kim Jeong-kwan, the Minister candidate of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, “If I am appointed as Minister, I will do my best to overcome the current trade crisis and foster new growth engines to break through low growth and leap to becoming a global industrial powerhouse.”
In a statement on the 29th regarding his appointment, he noted, “As the global order undergoes a major transformation, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility being appointed as Minister amid numerous challenges, such as U.S. tariff measures, the reorganization of global supply chains, energy security, and the climate crisis.”
Candidate Kim said, “In the rapidly changing trade environment, I will establish a foundation for the $1 trillion export era through strategic responses prioritizing national interests and innovation in trade structures.”
He emphasized that he would lead growth with strong industrial policies. He outlined plans to secure global leadership in advanced industries through the development of next-generation advanced technologies, such as semiconductors and secondary batteries, and by strengthening AI new industries and innovation ecosystems.
Candidate Kim further emphasized, “I will concentrate policy capabilities on the transition to a green industrial structure, the expansion of eco-friendly energy, and the strengthening of energy security.”
