The People Power Party criticized the supplementary budget presented to the National Assembly by the government of Lee Jae-myung, calling it a 'vicious cycle of liability' and 'a bonus for being elected funded by debt.'
Choi Eun-seok, a deputy chief of the People Power Party, said on Facebook on the 26th, 'The living support money wrapped in warm welfare ultimately comes from the taxes paid by the people, and that burden is shared by all of us. In particular, for future generations, it is no different from debt that is temporarily borrowed and long held.'
He emphasized, 'If money is sprinkled under the guise of supplementary budgets and then collected back through taxes and public utility fees, that is not a 'virtuous cycle of the economy,' but rather a 'vicious cycle of liability' targeting the people.' He added, 'Living support funds sprinkled based on political convenience and a multiplier effect that is out of touch with reality, like hotel economics, are not supplementary budgets but merely a precursor to collection.'
Choi, the deputy chief, stated, 'The essence of this supplementary budget is a policy that issues tax bills for the next generation to gain the public's goodwill now.' He remarked, 'For welfare to be truly warm, finance must be cold. What is needed now is not populism but restraint.'
Park Seong-hoon, the floor spokesperson for the same party, commented that day, 'The reality of the grandly wrapped 'Lee Jae-myung's supplementary budget' is nothing more than a bonus for being elected funded by debt.' He noted, 'The People Power Party acknowledges the necessity of the supplementary budget, but we cannot agree with the direction and method of a 'political supplementary budget' or 'populism supplementary budget' that is flawed.'
He added, 'The president has once again revealed his desire for the 'privatization of the nation's treasury' and reaffirmed that he lacks the will to maintain fiscal soundness,' stating, 'We will do our best at the supplementary budget review for genuine living and economic recovery, not the 'Latin American-style populism supplementary budget' or 'debt party supplementary budget,' which lack fundamental measures like precise targeted support and expenditure restructuring.'
Earlier, on the 23rd, the government submitted a supplementary budget plan of 30.5 trillion won to the National Assembly. According to the government's proposal, 13.2 trillion won of the supplementary budget would be used for the consumption coupon project aimed at reviving livelihoods, which would provide 150,000 to 500,000 won each based on income level to all citizens.
