President Lee Jae-myung said at the Cabinet meeting on the 24th, a day before the 75th anniversary of the Korean War, "I hope we can check whether there are sufficient compensation and honors for those who made special sacrifices to protect our country, and find possible methods once more."
President Lee said, "Generally, when people think of 'security', they tend to think that winning through fighting is important, but in reality, winning without fighting is more important," adding, "The most certain security is a state where there is no need to fight; it is to create peace. Creating peace is what politicians should do."
He continued, "The saying that peace is the economy and peace is food has become a reality," and expressed, "Building a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, strengthening security, and showing care for those who make special sacrifices to protect our country are all essential tasks, and I hope this day will be meaningful as a time to express gratitude to them once again."
Earlier, on the 6th of last month during the 70th Memorial Day speech, President Lee stated, "Veterans' affairs are the minimum honors for sacrifice and dedication, and it is the responsibility and duty the nation must fulfill," indicating plans to strengthen support for independence activists and their families. He particularly emphasized providing support for the surviving spouses of veterans facing poverty, establishing a veterans medical system, and realizing compensation for military service.
At that Cabinet meeting, they plan to examine the economic situation in light of the Middle East circumstances and discuss measures for price stability. President Lee said, "I hope this serves as an opportunity for careful consideration so that the vulnerable groups do not suffer further damage."
