The Democratic Party of Korea claimed that the policies of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon are problematic regarding the heating up of housing prices occurring mainly in Seoul.
Jin Seong-jun, chair of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, said at a parliamentary countermeasures meeting held on the 24th, "Recently, apartment prices in Seoul are concerning," and noted, "The rise in Seoul housing prices is a result of the real estate policies of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration and Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul."
He emphasized, "The Yoon Suk-yeol administration has recklessly implemented populist policies to stimulate the real estate market, lifting most of the regulatory areas and significantly relaxing capital gains tax and resale and new residency requirements for dwellings," adding, "Mayor Oh Se-hoon hastily lifted the land transaction permit zones, fueling the soaring real estate prices."
He continued, "Ensuring stable housing for the people is a task that cannot be abandoned and must not be abandoned," and stated, "We will closely consult with the government for the protection of genuine homebuyers and housing stability."
According to the Korea Real Estate Board (REB), the average sale price of apartments in Seoul rose by 0.36% in the third week of June (as of the 16th) compared to the previous week, marking the largest increase since the second week of September 2018 (0.45%). The cumulative increase rate for this year reached 2.7%.
