National Security Office Director Wi Seong-lak will attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in place of President Lee Jae-myung on the 24th (local time), the Presidential Office announced on the 23rd.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung noted in a written briefing that “Director Wi will attend the NATO summit held in The Hague, Netherlands, from June 24 to 25 in place of President Lee Jae-myung.”

Earlier, the Presidential Office announced that President Lee Jae-myung would not attend NATO. The Presidential Office stated, “Despite the numerous national issues piled up right after taking office, we have actively considered the President's participation in the NATO summit; however, after comprehensively considering various domestic issues and uncertainties due to the situation in the Middle East, the President decided not to attend this time.”
