The National Planning Committee, which acts as the transition committee for Lee Jae-myung’s government, requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport not to implement measures that create new towns around the metropolitan area to control real estate prices.
Lee Chun-seok, the head of the Economic Subcommittee of the Democratic Party of Korea, noted during a press briefing held at the government office in Seoul on the 22nd that he made these comments during the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport work report held on the 20th.
He added, "We will make efforts to seek fundamental measures without establishing temporary measures regarding real estate."
He also noted, "Real estate is a very important and sensitive issue, so it cannot be addressed and policies formed in a piecemeal way," and added, "I think it would be better to provide comprehensive measures once they are prepared."
Regarding the situation at the time of the report, the member said, "The issue of real estate prices is so important that materials were leaked to the press, and I received the report not in documents but through a PowerPoint (PPT)," adding, "But the PPT went by in an instant. I don't know the details well. I will examine it further."
According to a report by the Korea Real Estate Board (REB), the sale price of apartments in Seoul rose by 0.36% in the third week of June (as of the 16th), marking the highest increase since the second week of September 2018 (0.45%) during the administration of former President Moon Jae-in.
