On the 20th, President Lee Jae-myung appointed Kim Sung-bum, director of the Marine Policy Department at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as Vice Minister.
Born in 1968, Vice Minister Kim hails from Jeju and graduated from Seogwipo High School and Korea University, majoring in public administration. He earned a master's degree in marine science from Washington State University in the U.S. and a doctorate in logistics management from the University of Incheon.
Vice Minister Kim entered public service in 1994 after passing the 37th National Administrative Exam and has dealt with various tasks in the field of oceans and fisheries. At the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, he has held key positions, including director of the Ports Bureau, head of the Incheon Regional Oceans and Fisheries Office, marine policy director, and director of the Marine Policy Department.
The presidential office noted that Vice Minister Kim is a person with expertise and crisis response capabilities in the entire field of oceans and fisheries, having served in major positions at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and praised him for his excellent international cooperation and communication skills, particularly during his 11 years as chair of the additional fund for the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund.
It added that he is the optimal talent to implement President Lee Jae-myung's pledge of transferring the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan and fostering new marine industries, based on his diverse practical experience and policy capabilities.
