President Lee Jae-myung returned to Seoul Airport on the 19th after concluding the schedule of the Group of Seven (G7) summit.
President Lee attended the expanded session during the G7 summit. He had time to introduce issues concerning energy supply chains, the challenges of the international community in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), and Korea's role in this context.
He held bilateral meetings with leaders from nine countries, including a summit with Japan that emphasized the commitment to cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
However, the summit with U.S. President Donald Trump was canceled due to Trump's return following rising tensions in the Middle East. The initial steps towards resolving the issues between South Korea and the U.S. remain a challenge.
As President Lee is in the early stages of the new government, he is expected to focus on resolving domestic issues. Initially, he plans to select public office candidates that align with the citizens' expectations, given that the cabinet formation work has not yet been fully underway.
Political circles speculate that President Lee will soon announce a significant portion of the new cabinet due to the conclusion of the public recommendation system for officials such as ministers and vice ministers.
The activation of the emergency economic inspection task force (TF) and effective execution of the second supplementary budget are among the economic issues that President Lee must address. This second supplementary budget is set to be presented at the cabinet meeting that day.
