President Lee Jae-myung has decided to hold a luncheon meeting with the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties on the 22nd. This meeting is taking place five days after Chief of Staff Kang Hoon and Senior Secretary Woo Sang-ho conveyed President Lee's invitation to the party leaders at the National Assembly.
Senior Secretary Woo noted on the 19th, “President Lee and the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties are scheduled to meet for a luncheon at the presidential residence at noon on Sunday, the 22nd.” He added, “President Lee will provide detailed explanations regarding various matters related to the Group of Seven (G7) summit and will have candid discussions without any restrictions on other agendas.”
The luncheon is expected to be attended by Kim Byeong-ki, the acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, as well as Kim Yong-tae, the chairman of the People Power Party's emergency committee, and Song Eon-seok, the floor leader.
Senior Secretary Woo stated, “President Lee instructed Chief Kang just before attending the Cabinet meeting today (19th), after returning from the G7, that it would be advisable to hold a meeting with the party leaders sooner rather than later,” and added, “He plans to provide detailed explanations regarding various aspects related to the summit and said he would engage in candid discussions without any restrictions on other topics.”
Regarding the invitation to only the negotiation group leadership, he emphasized, “We decided to first meet with the leadership of the negotiation group parties, and then have separate meetings with other opposition party leaders at an appropriate time,” adding, “Frequent communication is the direction of the people’s sovereign government.”
