The Navy and Marine Corps announced that they will depart from the Jinhae military port on the 18th to participate in the '2025 Talisman Sabre' joint exercise held in Australia.
Talisman Sabre is a training exercise jointly hosted by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and the Australian Joint Military Command, held biennially. The Navy participated for the first time in 2021, and both the Navy and Marine Corps have participated together since 2023.
The exercise will take place from the 3rd to the 27th of next month in northeastern Australia. More than 30 ships, 70 aircraft, and about 30,000 troops from 19 countries, including Korea, the United States, and Australia, will participate.
The Korean training contingent consists of over 820 personnel, including the large transport vessel Marado, the destroyer Wang Geon, Lynx maritime operation helicopters, high-speed landing craft, six Korean-style landing assault vehicles, two K9 self-propelled howitzers, two Marine-on landing maneuver helicopters, and several Cheonmu multiple rocket launchers. Notably, about 20 members of the Army Special Warfare Command will participate for the first time.
The exercise commander, Colonel Jo Seong-guk, commander of the 53rd Marine Brigade, said, “I will demonstrate the operational capabilities we have honed so far and enhance the status of the Republic of Korea Navy and Marine Corps.”
