Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, will start a national tour to meet supporters in Daegu on the 18th. On that day, he visited the Daegu City Party and met with citizens at the Daegu Seomun Market, which has long been referred to as the 'heart of conservatism.'
With an early party convention expected to be held in August at the earliest, there are interpretations suggesting that Ahn's activities as a candidate for party leader are significant.
During a press conference at the Daegu City Party, Ahn stated, "I apologize first to the citizens who were disappointed by the election defeat," adding that "innovation in conservatism is the only way to overcome the crisis."
Regarding the recent internal turmoil within the party, Ahn said, "The rule of law is a core value of conservatism," and stated, "Following the Constitutional Court's unanimous decision on impeachment is the duty of a democratic party."
He continued, "Once the leadership is established, an official apology and innovation must be formalized," and added, "Capturing the hearts of the center, metropolitan areas, and younger generations is the only foundation for conservatism."
Regarding whether he will run for party leader, Ahn said, "Now is not the time to think about that. First, I must apologize to the citizens, and a thorough reflection and innovation on the reasons for the presidential election defeat comes first."
According to a poll conducted by Hankyul Research for Cookie News from the 14th to the 16th, involving 1,008 respondents, Kim Moon-soo, the former presidential candidate, was noted as the most suitable candidate for the next leader of the People Power Party at 20.3%, followed by Han Dong-hoon at 16.3%, Ahn Cheol-soo at 9.6%, Kim Yong-tae at 6.1%, and Na Kyung-won at 5.3%.
Ahn stated regarding the formation of an innovation committee, "An internal innovation committee is necessary, and it must operate for at least 90 days," emphasizing the importance of creating innovation measures that the public can feel.
