Wi Sung-lak, head of the security office at the Presidential Office, had breakfast with an adviser to the Prime Minister of Japan on the 16th to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, and the Presidential Office stated that they promised to maintain close communication for the 'development of Korea-Japan relations.'
Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong said at a briefing that "Head of the Security Office Wi Sung-lak had breakfast today with an adviser to the Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting Korea for the reception for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan," adding that "both sides agreed to discuss the development of relations between the two countries and to continue to communicate closely."
President Lee Jae-myung will find it difficult to attend the reception starting on the 16th (local time) for the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada. However, he is expected to convey a message congratulating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations.
An official from the Presidential Office noted that "Even if President Lee cannot attend the reception in person, he is considering options to send a congratulatory message," adding that "it will contain content suitable for the 60th anniversary and a vision for the future based on the process of cooperation between the two countries."
