President Lee Jae-myung said on the 15th that he appointed former Defense Reform Secretary Kim Hyun-jong as the first Vice Administrator of the National Security Office, Lim Ung-soon as the second, and Apostolic Nuncio to the Holy See Oh Hyun-joo as the third, according to the Presidential Office.
Chief of Staff Kang Hoon held a briefing that afternoon at the Yongsan Presidential Office and revealed the personnel plan.
Chief of Staff Kang noted, "Vice Administrator Kim is a person with rich experience in military policy, having served as the Director of the U.S. Policy at the Ministry of National Defense and the Director of the Army Headquarters Policy Office," and evaluated that he is the right person to lead not only the enhancement of Korea's security capabilities but also the reform of our military.
Regarding Vice Administrator Lim, he stated, "He has extensive diplomatic experience with the U.S., having served as the first secretary of the embassy. He is currently in Canada preparing for the G7" and added, "In a situation where the importance of diplomatic negotiations is greater than ever, he will push for practical diplomacy centered on national interests."
Chief of Staff Kang said, "Vice Administrator Oh is the first female Apostolic Nuncio to the Holy See and has various experiences, including serving as the Director of the Development Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as an advisor to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund," and noted, "Amid competition among countries in the field of economic security, she will move forward with establishing economic security strategies to maximize national interests."
Regarding the appointment of both second and third Vice Administrators from among diplomats, a source from the Presidential Office said, "What is most important now is diplomacy and trade, so we have gathered individuals who can perform well in those areas," adding, "In particular, the third Vice Administrator has held key positions at the UN and has been active in the field of economic diplomacy, and we expect him to collaborate well with the secretaries in the areas of economic security and cyber security."
