President Lee Jae-myung said on the 13th regarding North Korea's cessation of 'noise broadcasting' in relation to the suspension of our military's propaganda broadcasts, "We should do our best to avoid making each other suffer by wasting electricity and being noisy, which is painful for us and for them, and not beneficial to either side."
On this day, President Lee visited Daeseong-dong village in Jangdan-myeon, Paju, where residents have complained about damage caused by North Korea's loudspeaker broadcasts, and stated, "It’s a relief that North Korea immediately followed our suspension and stopped, so we could resolve the noise damage."
Earlier, President Lee had halted the military's broadcasts to North Korea on the 11th. North Korea has also ceased its loudspeaker broadcasts to the South starting the following day. President Lee noted, "We should minimize actions that harm each other without benefits, and I hope that not only the problem of noise damage but also the tensions between the two Koreas can be alleviated, leading to economic resolutions."
A resident said, "Residents suffered because of balloons sending North Korean leaflets." President Lee remarked, "The Ministry of Unification requested restraint from sending leaflets illegally to North Korea, and if it continues, there should be strict punishment," and emphasized, "At the government level, if it happens again, we will impose very severe penalties." Families of abductees have indicated that they will send leaflets to the North, despite the government's request to halt such activities.
That afternoon, President Lee visited the Army's 25th Infantry Division Bi-ryong Observation Post in Yeoncheon County and told the troops, "Although security is crucial and often forgotten, it is essential for the survival of our community," and urged them to "have pride in carrying out this task."
He continued, "It is more important to win without fighting than to fight and win. That is your responsibility," and stressed, "The most important thing is to eliminate the need for fighting, which is our role." President Lee also inspected areas near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and military posts.
