President Lee Jae-myung appointed former Board of Audit and Inspection acting chairman Jo Eon-seok as special prosecutor for insurrection, former Seoul Central District Court chief judge Min Jung-gi as special prosecutor for Kim Keon-hee, and former Prosecutor General Lee Myung-hyun as special prosecutor for Chae Sang-byeong on the 12th.

The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 13th that it had received notification of the nomination of the three special prosecutors from the presidential office at 11:09 p.m. the previous day.

Jo, who was nominated as the special prosecutor for insurrection, and Min, nominated as the special prosecutor for Kim Keon-hee, were recommended by the Democratic Party, while Lee, nominated as the special prosecutor for Chae Hae-byeong, was recommended by the Rebuilding Korea Party.

The insurrection special prosecution law addresses 11 allegations related to former President Yoon Suk-yeol's declaration of a state of emergency on December 3, including insurrection and foreign currency inducement activities. The Kim Keon-hee special prosecution law specified a total of 16 investigation targets, including allegations of receiving luxury bags, suspicions related to the 'Geonjinbeopsa' issue, and allegations of illegal polling activities involving political broker Myung-tae Kyun. The Chae Hae-byeong special prosecution law focuses on allegations of obstructing the investigation into the death of a Marine during a search operation for missing persons in July 2023 and concealing the case.
