Park Hyung-soo, chief floor leader of the People Power Party, said on the 13th, “Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok has enough grounds for resignation based solely on the allegations so far,” and noted, “If he insists on attending the confirmation hearing until the end, I will strongly point this out and demand his resignation.”
Park, the chief floor leader, said, “The Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok has a debt of 140 million won among his total assets of 210 million won. He borrowed money again in 2018 from someone who provided him illegal political funds in 2008 and has yet to repay it,” adding, “How should we understand the fact that he borrowed a total of 90 million won from nine people, each 10 million won, on the same day?”
He pointed out, “The person who provided illegal political funds to nominee Kim Min-seok is said to have served as a co-chair of the sports committee in Lee Jae-myung's campaign during this presidential election,” urging, “It must be clearly answered whether this reflects the will of the nominee Kim Min-seok, who was a permanent co-chair.”
The chief floor leader Park stated that the ‘three special prosecutor’ candidates nominated by President Lee Jae-myung the previous day showed “political bias that is fully revealed.”
The chief floor leader Park claimed, “Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok obstructed the audits of corruption and irregularities of the Moon Jae-in administration while at the Board of Audit and Inspection,” and added, “Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki comes from the Law Research Society, which has a biased political view. The appointment of Special Prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun is a product of political division with the Justice Innovation Party.”
The chief floor leader Park said, “Less than ten days after President Lee Jae-myung took office, the Democratic Party proposed legislation that undermines the country's judicial system,” mentioning the bill to abolish the prosecution office and take away the prosecution's investigative authority to establish a prosecution department only responsible for indictments, and another bill granting investigative authority, taken from the prosecution, to the Ministry of the Interior for the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, in addition to a total of four legislative proposals that would establish a National Investigation Commission under the Prime Minister to oversee all these investigations.”
He further asserted, “These bills are an unconstitutional legislative coup attempt to dismantle the powers and institutions outlined in the Constitution,” and claimed, “The Democratic Party, which is trying to put the judiciary in their hands, is also aiming to dismantle the prosecution and seize all investigative powers, marking the beginning of judicial dictatorship.”
The chief floor leader Park argued against the concerns raised in some political circles regarding the unconstitutional dissolution judgment of the People Power Party, stating, “Such legal interpretation cannot exist.” He explained, “Dissolution of a party is possible when its purpose and activities violate the democratic basic order,” asserting, “The People Power Party has never engaged in activities that violate the basic order.”
The chief floor leader Park also expressed his views on the request for a general assembly meeting made by re-elected members of the People Power Party. He stated, “I thought it was inappropriate for the outgoing floor leadership to lead it, so it was canceled,” adding, “I said I would hold it today if the assembly demand request was submitted, but it has yet to be received.”
