Following the approval of the so-called "three major special prosecutor laws" on sedition, Kim Keon-hee, and Chae Sang-byeong by the cabinet meeting, the Democratic Party of Korea began the formal process of recommending special prosecutor candidates.

In a back briefing after the supreme council meeting on the 11th, the leadership of the Democratic Party announced, "The preparations for recommending special prosecutor candidates are proceeding smoothly. We are gathering a sufficient pool of candidates, and the recommendation process will proceed orderly."

Hwang Jung-a, the chief spokesperson, explained, "Yesterday (10th), the Speaker of the National Assembly requested the president to recommend special prosecutor candidates. Within three days, the president will request recommendations from the Democratic Party of Korea and the Rebuilding Korea Party in writing. Once the recommendation request is received, each party will have three days to recommend candidates again." Hwang added, "We have secured a sufficient pool of candidates and are prepared to promptly make recommendations after confirming the candidates' intentions and coordinating in advance."

In practice, the Democratic Party of Korea and the Rebuilding Korea Party are searching for candidates mainly among legal professionals such as prosecutors, judges, and lawyers. The recommendation process is expected to be completed around the election of new floor leaders on the 13th. A party leadership official emphasized, "It is possible to make recommendations within this week. We are prepared to handle it immediately once we receive the recommendation request."

After the appointment of the special prosecutor, a preparation period of up to 20 days is allowed for the organization of the investigation team, with the full-scale investigation expected to begin as early as the beginning of next month. The sedition special prosecutor is anticipated to employ up to 267 personnel, Kim Keon-hee special prosecutor 205 personnel, and Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor 105 personnel, marking the largest investigation team ever.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party aims to expedite economic recovery, stabilize public livelihoods, and cooperate with the opposition parties. Hwang, the spokesperson, stated, "We plan to swiftly process key bills like the commercial law amendment in coordination with the new floor leadership at next week's plenary session, and have begun forming the price management task force (TF), including appointing the Director General." The new leadership also plans to discuss and determine the timing for addressing contentious bills such as the criminal procedure law and the three major broadcasting laws.

Jeon Hyun-hee, a supreme council member of the Democratic Party, stressed, "The implementation of the special prosecutor law is the first step in condemning injustice and establishing justice," and emphasized that a comprehensive special prosecutor investigation should uncover all the truths behind the suspicions.
