Kim Dong-yeon, the governor of Gyeonggi Province, noted on the 11th regarding President Lee Jae-myung's order to stop broadcasting loudspeaker propaganda to North Korea, "This will be the first step in restoring trust between the two Koreas."
Governor Kim wrote on Facebook that day, "The broadcasts from the loudspeakers to the North have finally stopped. I sincerely welcome this."
He said, "Residents in the border area have suffered great anxiety and pain due to sewage balloons, leaflets to North Korea, and loudspeaker noise," adding, "Gyeonggi Province deeply sympathizes with the new government's decision to halt the broadcasts and looks forward to a sincere response from North Korea."
He continued, "To ensure the border area can return to complete peace and normalcy, Gyeonggi Province will fulfill all its possible roles."
President Lee ordered the military authorities to stop broadcasting loudspeaker propaganda to North Korea effective 2 p.m. that day. This comes one year after the Yoon Suk-yeol government resumed the broadcasts after six years as a response to North Korea's scattering of sewage and trash in June last year.
