Vice Minister Im Gi-geun of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Im Ki-geun, the head of the Procurement Agency, has been appointed as the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, overseeing government budgets and finances. The new Vice Minister is an expert in budget management who has worked in key positions at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and has experience dispatched to the National Assembly's Budget and Accounts Committee, earning a reputation for being adept at collaboration with the Assembly.

Born in 1968 in Haenam, South Jeolla Province, Vice Minister Im graduated from Songwon High School in Gwangju and majored in business administration at Seoul National University. Im entered public service through the 36th National Examination for Public Administration and has held major budget-related positions such as head of the Welfare Budget Division, head of the Agricultural and Fisheries Budget Division, and head of the Budget Policy Division.

Vice Minister Im was dispatched to the National Assembly's Budget and Accounts Committee in 2015, gaining experience in budget review work. After returning to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, he served as Director of the Fiscal Planning Division and Director of the Policy Coordination Division, handling fiscal and policy areas. He later held positions as Economic Budget Officer and Chief Budget Officer. Just before retiring from the Ministry, he rose to become the Fiscal Manager responsible for fiscal policy and management.

Vice Minister Im has been recognized three times as a 'superior worth emulating' by employees of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and has earned a place in the 'Hall of Fame.' His work style is known to be meticulous and quick in decision-making.

Vice Minister Im was appointed as the head of the Procurement Agency in 2023. While serving as head of the agency, he introduced a consulting service called 'Public Procurement Guide' for corporations unable to enter the public procurement market due to a lack of information. As a result, more than 100 corporations entered the procurement market. Last year, a public interest advertisement from the Procurement Agency titled 'Trust, Balance, and Harmony in K-Procurement: The Next Stage' featured Kang Soo-jin, the Director General of the National Ballet, generating considerable attention. The individual who recruited Director General Kang was also Vice Minister Im.

With this appointment, Vice Minister Im returns to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, his 'home base.' Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung of the Presidential Office noted regarding the appointment, "He possesses expertise in policy coordination and growth strategies," adding that he is a budget and policy expert who will serve as a catalyst for overcoming crises through active fiscal measures and laying the groundwork for growth strategies.
