On the 5th, the inspection disciplinary law passed the National Assembly's plenary session under the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea.
The inspection disciplinary law stipulates that besides the Prosecutor General, the Minister of Justice can also directly request disciplinary action against prosecutors.
Accordingly, the Minister of Justice has now been able to instruct the Ministry of Justice's inspector to investigate specific prosecutors.
Among the 202 lawmakers present at the plenary session that day, 185 voted in favor and 17 opposed.
People Power Party Representative Joo Jin-woo expressed opposition, stating, "The inspection disciplinary bill is a retaliatory measure. It punishes prosecutors who investigate President Lee Jae-myung and humiliates them by holding hearings, effectively a type of judicial terror that prevents him from working through impeachment. This is the first bill, but it is far from the integration mentioned by the president."
Democratic Party Representative Kim Yong-min said during the supportive discussion, "It is exercising the sovereignty of the people for the Minister to be able to conduct inspections and impose discipline on any misconduct by prosecutors. The Ministry of Justice needs to have appropriate responsibilities and authority to prevent the prosecution from acting unilaterally."
