Members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee (hereafter referred to as the Legislation and Judiciary Committee) belonging to the People Power Party criticized on the 4th, saying, "The Democratic Party unilaterally submitted the 'Proposal to Increase the Number of Supreme Court Justices by 30' today after holding a meeting of the subcommittee on the bill review just 10 hours after the election of President Lee Jae-myung."

On that day, members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the People Power Party held a press conference at the National Assembly's communication hall and made the remarks. The People Power Party noted, "In today's meeting, when two members of the Democratic Party expressed their opposition to the bill, the meeting was abruptly adjourned, and attempts were made to persuade them in private," adding, "Ultimately, a proposal was unilaterally passed to increase the number of justices by 16 over four years at a rate of four each year, through this forced processing of the bill."

The People Power Party stated, "The Democratic Party indicated that the president also agreed to submit and pass this bill," and added, "The difference between the image of Lee Jae-myung, who showed during the presidential election, and his appearance after being elected is completely different."

He pointed out, "This is an overt legislative coup aimed at turning the Supreme Court into a shield for the Lee Jae-myung regime and a national deception that overturns the promises made before the public during the presidential election."

The People Power Party continued, "However, immediately after the presidential election, just one day later, the proposal to increase the number of justices by 30 was pushed through. How can this not be regarded as a 'political fraud' that deceived the public to gain votes and utilized the election?"

The People Power Party said, "President Lee Jae-myung has been stating throughout the presidential election, 'Now is not the time to discuss increasing the number of justices, and he instructed the election campaign team to exercise restraint,'" and added, "In fact, the Democratic Party officially announced the withdrawal of the proposal to increase the number by 100 and the proposal to increase the number by 30, including non-lawyers, due to concerns about a decline in public opinion."

The People Power Party claimed, "The Democratic Party's 'Proposal to Increase the Number of Supreme Court Justices by 30' is not a mere bill. As President Lee Jae-myung revealed on June 2, it is revenge legislation hastily proposed the next day out of anger over the Supreme Court's guilty verdict against him on May 1 for his election law violation case, which aims to completely dominate the judiciary."

The People Power Party stated, "President Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party should apologize for resubmitting the proposal to increase the number of justices by 100, which they promised to withdraw just a few days ago, right after his election," and emphasized, "They must fully withdraw all judicial-related bills that have been brought up in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee's plenary session and clearly state their commitment in front of the public that they will not distort the Supreme Court's organization based on the interests of specific factions."

The People Power Party added, "The Democratic Party will not urgently process this bill, which is sensitive to President Lee Jae-myung, such as 'the law on halting the trial' or the amendment to the election law excluding false facts," but noted, "However, we cannot rule out the possibility that it may be presented in tomorrow's plenary session."
