The presidential office announced on the 4th that President Lee Jae-myung received a report on the transfer of military command authority from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo.
The presidential office stated in a media notice that "President Lee received a report on the transfer of military command authority from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at around 8:07 a.m. at his residence," and "the Chairman reported to the President on North Korea's military developments and confirmed that there were no issues with our military's readiness."
It added, "President Lee expressed deep appreciation for the commitment of our military personnel, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, to protect the lives and property of the people."
The presidential office also conveyed that "President Lee trusts in the military's loyalty and capability toward the people and hopes they will do their best to be a military that earns the love and trust of the people." It further noted, "He also asked them to closely monitor North Korea's developments based on the ROK-U.S. combined defense posture and to maintain a thorough state of readiness."
In particular, President Lee stated, "It was commendable that during the emergency martial law, the military personnel responded passively to unjust orders out of loyalty to the people and the country, preventing significant chaos."
The presidential office also told the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that "the President urged him to ensure that service members do not feel anxious and can focus well on defense, and to do their utmost to alleviate the people's concerns about security."
