The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Deputy Minister of Trade Negotiations No Geon-gi will jointly attend the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM), held at the OECD headquarters in Paris, France, for two days beginning on the 3rd (local time), along with related ministries such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This Ministerial Council Meeting will be held under the theme "Leading the Way to Resilient and Inclusive Prosperity Through Rules-Based Trade, Investment, and Innovation." Ministerial-level officials from 38 member countries and 21 invited countries will participate.
The Ministerial Council Meeting will be conducted in six sessions. On the first day, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will present policies to promote a fair trade environment in key industries such as semiconductors and information technology, and policies to prevent supply chain disruptions caused by pandemics and wars in the 'Promoting Market Openness and the Multilateral Trading System' session.
On the second day, during the 'Digital Economy for Shared Prosperity' session, the Ministry will propose the OECD's role in digital transformation for inclusive economic growth and the utilization of cross-border data transfer, as well as introduce Korea's contribution plans.
Deputy Minister No will use this occasion to hold bilateral consultations with Costa Rica, the chair country of this year’s OECD Ministerial Council Meeting, and Finland, the next chair country. Additionally, No will discuss the current status of OECD principle utilization with Yoshiki Takeuchi, OECD Deputy Secretary-General, and explore areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the OECD ahead of the APEC Artificial Intelligence (AI) Forum scheduled for August.
