Kwon Young-guk, the Democratic Labor Party's presidential candidate, stated on the 3rd, “We will restart with the workers, farmers, women, self-employed, sexual minorities, people with disabilities, migrant workers, and climate justice. Those we must represent.”
Candidate Kwon made these remarks in a Facebook statement after the 21st presidential election exit poll was announced on the same day, saying, “I will continue to move forward with strength. I will stay on the path I have walked unwaveringly.”
According to the exit poll results announced by the three major terrestrial broadcasters, KBS, MBC, and SBS, at 8 p.m. on the same day, candidate Kwon was recorded at 1.3%.
Candidate Kwon added, “I deeply appreciate the support given to Kwon Young-guk and the Democratic Labor Party,” emphasizing, “I will go with the excluded ones, the lives being pushed aside, the unrecognized identities, the poor and the sick.”
Candidate Kwon, who officially started the election campaign by visiting high-altitude crane workers, paid his respects on the voting day at the memorial of the late Kim Chung-hyun, a worker who died during operations at the Taean Thermal Power Plant in South Chungcheong Province.
It is noted that despite the limitations of being a minor progressive party outside of the parliament and the short early presidential election phase, they were able to show their presence through candidate debates and other means.
This exit poll was conducted by Hankook Research, Ipsos, and Korea Research International on 80,146 voters who cast their ballots at 325 polling stations nationwide from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the same day. The margin of error is ±0.8 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
