Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 3rd, “I will do my best to fulfill the great responsibility and mission given to me, so as not to disappoint the expectations of our people.” The candidate made these remarks around 11:46 p.m. as he left his residence in Incheon Gyeyang-gu with Mrs. Kim Hye-kyung, wearing a blue tie. He had the Taegeukgi badge he usually wears on the left lapel of his jacket.
The candidate noted, “It’s premature to say anything as the vote counting is still ongoing, but if the results are confirmed as they are, I pay my respects to the great decision of our people.” This was his first message after the vote counting began, following the conclusion of his final campaign rally at Yeouido Park the previous day. He expressed gratitude with a calm expression, raising his hand. He also received a bouquet from a supporter.
The candidate departed from his residence that evening and moved to Yeouido, where the National Assembly is located. He plans to stop by the party's central office in Yeouido first to encourage officials from the election campaign committee, then head to the stage in front of the National Assembly to express his thoughts on the election results.
According to the vote counting status from the National Election Commission, as of 12:35 a.m. on the 4th, the percentage of the presidential election vote counted is 61.84%. The vote percentage is 48.77% for the candidate Lee Jae-myung and 42.78% for the People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo.
