People Power Party Chairperson Kim Yong-tae noted on the 1st, "The party's decision last year to oppose the impeachment of the president should be nullified," adding, "We will formalize this in the party's emergency response committee."
Chairperson Kim said in the morning on his Facebook that "the party's stance of the People Power Party must align with the universal values of the party's constitution, and the decisions of the national judiciary, such as those by the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court, are irreversible grounds for determining the party's position."
This signifies a correction of the People Power Party's endorsement of opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol in a non-public general meeting following the emergency martial law on December 3rd last year.
Chairperson Kim stated, "The interpretations and judgments of national assembly members, who are constitutional institutions, should be respected with dignity," but added, "Nevertheless, a liberal democratic party's position must be established by applying the universal constitutional spirit as strictly as possible."
He continued, "Both the citizens who supported impeachment and those who opposed it had their own sincerity and patriotism, which the political sphere must embrace from the perspective of the diversity of political views and national unity," and added, "The People Power Party promises to pursue uninterrupted reform and will quickly advance as a party that defends and practices liberal democracy, where universal values and diversity are respected."
Chairperson Kim, targeting former President Yoon, who declared support for candidate Kim Moon-soo the day before, said, "Former President Yoon may have left the party, but in effect, he was expelled. I hope former President Yoon stays far away from the People Power Party."
