The People Power Party predicted on the 31st that the remarks by Lee Jun-seok, the presidential candidate of the Reform Party, and former Roh Moo-hyun Foundation Chairman Yoo Si-min would affect the election's dynamics in the final stretch.
Shin Dong-uk, spokesperson for the People Power Party's central election committee, met with reporters at the party's headquarters in Yeouido, saying, "We believe that the controversy over Lee Jun-seok's remarks as the candidate of the Reform Party and Yoo Si-min's remarks degrading women will significantly influence the election campaign in the final stretch."
Shin noted, "Although polls are not being released, we are assessing that public sentiment is shifting significantly." He added, "Today (31st), tomorrow (June 1), and the day after (2nd), candidate Kim will focus his campaign on areas where he can engage with his supporters as much as possible."
Regarding Kim's campaign on the 1st of next month, Shin said, "We are going to focus our campaign in 'Gyeonggi Province', which we consider to be a crucial battleground in this election." He also emphasized that since both candidate Kim Moon-soo and Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, have served as governors of Gyeonggi Province, "corruption and other issues will be sharply contrasted."
In particular, Shin stated regarding the final campaign on the 2nd, "We are preparing for a campaign that will travel from Jeju Island all the way to Seoul."
On the day of the presidential election, the 3rd, regarding candidate Kim's plans, he said, "Since I will participate in early voting, I will likely rest at home and monitor the ballot counting situation."
Additionally, regarding the controversy over early voting that emerged over the past two days, he emphasized, "The management of the voting process must be clearly verified regardless of political gains or losses, and we will thoroughly investigate the truth behind this."
