Kim Yong-tae, Chairperson of the People Power Party emergency response committee, said on the 31st regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol, "I hope you don’t even come close to the People Power Party." This is interpreted as a reaction to former President Yoon's appeal for support for presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo at a rally led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon.
The Chairperson revealed this on his Facebook that afternoon, saying, "Former President Yoon has left the party, but it is effectively a forced departure."
He added that if Yoon did not voluntarily leave the party, they were planning to amend the party's constitution to establish a provision for his automatic expulsion. He noted, "Today, the People Power Party has amended its constitution to explicitly prohibit the president's intervention in party affairs. To be precise, it is an 'anti-Yoon Suk-yeol constitutional amendment.'"
The amendment includes provisions that prevent the president from intervening in major party affairs such as internal elections, nominations, and personnel matters. It also includes a factional neutrality provision that states, "No actions that undermine internal democracy and the autonomous competition of party members will be allowed, centered around specific individuals, including the president, or specific forces."
In a statement read by former Yeouido Institute resident member Lee Dong-ho, former President Yoon said, "To protect the freedom and democracy of this country and to normalize it, I urge everyone to go to the polls and support candidate Kim Moon-soo on June 3."
He also remarked, "Voting for candidate Kim Moon-soo will make him president and ensure the freedom and future of this country," adding, "If we miss this opportunity, we may have to pay a steep price in time and sacrifice, and the recovery of freedom, democracy, and a normal state may become impossible."
The Democratic Party of Korea and the Reform Party launched an offensive, claiming a connection between former President Yoon and candidate Kim regarding Yoon's appeal.
Lee Jae-myung, the candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "I hope the public recognizes that the essence of candidate Kim is the avatar of Yoon Suk-yeol and Jeon Kwang-hoon," adding, "The election of candidate Kim would mean the return of the regent Yoon Suk-yeol."
Moon Seong-ho, spokesperson for the Reform Party's election campaign headquarters, stated, "Kim Moon-soo is resolutely maintaining his loyalty as Yoon Suk-yeol's loyalist, and Yoon Suk-yeol is earnestly appealing for Kim Moon-soo's support," asserting, "Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Moon-soo are one body."
