As of 2 p.m. on the 30th, the second day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the cumulative voter turnout is recorded at 28.59%. Although this is 2 percentage points higher than the first day of the 20th presidential election, the voter turnout has been lower than that of the 20th presidential election as the day progressed.
According to the National Election Commission, a total of 12,689,868 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters completed their ballots in the second day of early voting, which began at 6 a.m. on that day.
The voter turnout is showing 0.15 percentage points lower than the turnout (28.74%) at the same time during the early voting of the 20th presidential election in 2022, which recorded the highest early voting rate since the introduction of early voting in 2014.
This early voting recorded the highest figure for a nationwide election at this time until the day before. However, the voter turnout has decreased compared to the 20th presidential election.
An official from the election commission noted, "Unlike the previous presidential election, where early voting was held on Friday and Saturday, this election is only taking place on weekdays." If the current trend continues, the final early voting turnout is expected to be lower than that of the 20th presidential election (36.93%).
The voter turnout at the same time compared to last year's early voting for the 22nd general election (24.93%) is 3.66 percentage points higher.
The region with the highest voter turnout so far is Jeonnam (48.58%), followed by Jeonbuk (45.40%) and Gwangju (44.28%).
The lowest voter turnout is recorded in Daegu at 20.53%, followed by Busan (24.88%) and Gyeongbuk (25.61%).
The voter turnout in the metropolitan area is recorded at 28.03% in Seoul, 26.91% in Gyeonggi, and 26.93% in Incheon.
The early voting that began on the 29th will conclude today. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and voters must bring an identification card and visit the early voting site to participate.
Since the introduction of early voting in 2014, the gap with the 20th presidential election is narrowing over time, unlike the day before.
